Most people think that a graphic designer and a graphic artist are the same thing and also use it interchangeably. There may be some grey areas of overlap but they are two separate things nonetheless. When we include the word ‘artist’, people usually think of traditional physical artists who use paints and colors to create beautiful art. And this is completely correct.
